Development Corporation for Children is a certified CDFI that was established in 1991 with a mission of a€œhelping children thrive and learn by forging relationships that bring economic power and viability to the business of childcare.a€ The Awardee provides loans to home-based childcare providers serving low-income families in the state of Minnesota. The applicanta€™s proposed activities create new and improved childcare opportunities for low-income families and promote business and job creation.

CDFI Awards for Development Corporation for Children


FA (2008) - $627,104

First Children’s Finance (FCF) is a certified CDFI established in 1991. FCF provides loans and grants to family child care providers and child care centers throughout Minnesota and also Michigan, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa to increase the capacity of early care and education providers. FCF will use the FY08 Financial Assistance award of $574,311 to increase its lending capacity and will use the FY08 Technical Assistance grant of $52,793 to: 1) pay staff salary; 2) improve data impact and transaction reporting; 3) design and implement an updated website; and 4) purchase equipment to improve the technical assistance provided to borrowers.



TA (2004) - $81,500

Development Corporation for Children will use the award to obtain consulting services to assess economic impact and develop a marketing plan; staff training in market analysis; and technology improvements for the staff.



SECA (2002) - $200,000

The SECA award will be used to increase lending to childcare businesses and to support a study of the feasibility of the Awardee expanding its lending operations to neighboring states.
