FA (2007) - $487,800

Self-Help Credit Union is a certified CDFI and has been providing financing services since 1984. Its target market consists of low-income African Americans and Latinos in North Carolina and the Washington DC metropolitan area. The credit union also serves a national Investment area for charter school lending. Self-Help will use its FY07 Financial Assistance award to support its net assets base, increasing the opportunity to raise more deposits to support its lending activities.



FA (2006) - $585,000

Self-Help Credit Union is a certified CDFI established in 1983. Self-Help finances investments in homes and businesses in low-income communities in North Carolina and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Self-Help will use the 2006 Financial Assistance Award of $585,000 to provide loans to microenterprises, businesses, and charter schools in their North Carolina and Washington, DC service area.



FA (2005) - $1,398,750

The $1,398,750 FA award will be used to provide homeownership loans in North Carolina and in the metropolitan Washington DC area where Self-Help opened a new office in 2003. The award is expected to leverage additional funds resulting in $20 million in additional lending capital. Self-Help"s mortgage loans offer an affordable alternative to the predatory mortgages that often create great financial difficulties for elderly and low-income borrowers.
