Incorporated in 2001 as an affiliate of the Conservation Fund, the Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF) provides financing to high-potential, natural resource-based businesses that will advance sustainable economic development in West Virginia.

FA (2009) - $600,000

Natural Capital Investment Fund founded in 2002 is a certified CDFI and a wholly owned subsidiary of The Conservation Fund which is one of the largest nonprofit conservation organizations in the nation. The Natural Capital Investment Fund assists rural economically distressed communities in West Virginia and North Carolina, providing subordinated debt and equity to small and emerging green or eco-friendly businesses that promote economic development activities. It will use its FY 2009 Financial Assistance for business lending to its Target Market.



TA (2005) - $49,803

NCIF will use the 2005 TA grant of $49,803 to: 1) obtain consulting services to update its strategic plan, conduct a market asessment, and design an impact measurement system; 2) acquire relevant operating and reporting software; 3) pay for staff training in credit analysis; and, 4) pay for staff time attributed to upgrading its systems.



FA (2004) - $300,000

The Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF) will use the award to support 12 loans in Hot Zone businesses and six loans in investment areas. NCIF proposes to expand their target market to the entire state of West Virginia from the current target market of approximately half of the state"s counties.



SECA (2002) - $194,965

The Natural Capital Investment Fund of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, received financial and technical support to provide loan funds and equity investments as well as technical assistance to businesses operating in one of the eligible investment areas of 26 counties in West Virginia.
