Used Energy-Related Laboratory Equipment Grants

To assist United States institutions of higher education in equipping their science and engineering laboratories for energy-related research and/or instructional purposes.

The Department of Energy's goal is to advance national, economic and energy security in the U.S.; to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that goal; and to ensure environmental cleanup of the national nuclear weapons complex.

Program Accomplishments

The number of awards depends on the amount and type of equipment excised during the year.

Uses and Use Restrictions

Used energy-related laboratory equipment is granted to nonprofit educational institutions of higher learning for use in energy-oriented research or instructional programs in the life, physical, and environmental sciences and engineering.



Eligibility Requirements

Applicant Eligibility

Nonprofit educational institutions of higher learning, such as universities, colleges, junior colleges, hospitals, and technical institutes or museums located in the United States and interested in establishing or upgrading energy oriented educational and research programs in the life, physical, and environmental sciences and engineering may apply.

Beneficiary Eligibility

Nonprofit institutions of higher education benefit.

Credentials/Documentation

Institutions complete the on-line application. This application includes: (1) Identification of institution and school and/or department where equipment would be used; (2) the objectives to be met through use of the equipment; (3) a detailed listing of the equipment requested; (4) a brief description of energy-oriented course offerings and numbers of graduate and undergraduate students enrolled; (5) data on qualifications of faculty members to make effective use of the equipment; (6) reference to any prior grant for equipment (financial or otherwise) to the same or to a related department; (7) the name and title of the person preparing the application . Application Procedures

The guideline and application are on the website. The application will be automatically submitted to the appropriate DOE field office via electronic mail. This program is subject to the provisions of OMB Circular No. A-110.

Award is on basis of first-received, first- qualified proposal.
