HUDRD CDBG Disaster Recovery Outcomes of Renter Households

HUD is awarding $1,400,000 for two research studies that examine the disaster recovery outcomes of renter households and to investigate changes in rental housing dynamics in areas impacted by disasters.

This research is expected to help the Federal government, states and communities throughout

credit:

the United States improve disaster recovery effectiveness for renter households by providing information about how disaster recovery programs funded through Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funds (CDBG-DR) have different impacts on renters and homeowners, and how disasters impact affordable rental housing stock over time.

The first research study will focus on the recovery outcomes of renter households following disasters and the factors, including mechanisms of Federal and local implementation of CDBG-DR grants, that contribute to differences in outcomes for renter households and potential inequities in outcomes relative to other groups.

The second research study will examine the short- and long-term impacts of disasters on housing stock that is affordable to low- or moderate-income households and assess past initiatives that have attempted to prevent reductions of affordable housing stock.
