ISO 17025/17020 Quality Control Accreditation of the Forensics Lab, Legal Medicine and Crime Scene Management Units of Costa Rica

This project seeks to strengthen the entire technical-scientific structure of the Judicial Police in terms of attention to physical evidence, from the collection process at the crime scene to the issuance of the expert opinions generated by the scientific departments of the Judicial Police.

The
selected implementer must work closely with Poder Judicial’s Department of Forensics Science, Legal Medicine and Crime Scene Investigations unit, as well as with key institutional leaders and unit chiefs, to strengthen the capacity of Costa Rica’s Judicial Police, identify needs, plan trainings, coordinate Study Tours to relevant partners in the United States and the region, and develop standard operating procedures for quality control to obtain international accreditation under ISO 17020 or ISO 17025 accordingly.
