Reclamation seeks to expand its knowledge and capabilities with respect to DMDU frameworks.
The 2007 Interim Guidelines for Lower Basin Shortages and Coordinated Operations of Lake Powell and Lake Mead, as specified in those guidelines, are set to be re-evaluated prior to 202 0. It is anticipated
that the incorporation of a DMDU framework will be part of such a process.
For example, the framework termed Many Objective Robust Decision Making may be beneficial for the Colorado River system because it adds optimization to generate alternatives, to complement some of the existing DMDU work.
As such, the purpose of this project is to, building from the work in the 2012 Study and utilizing the emerging science with respect to DMDU, design an approach and provide a proof of concept that will demonstrate how alternative decision making frameworks may be able to assist Reclamation’s long-term planning efforts, in particular, the exploration of alternative reservoir operating policies.
