Aquatic Invasive Species Contamination Prevention

This award will allow Utah Department of Natural Resources to implement the State of Utah Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan at water bodies owned by Reclamation.

This award will provide funding to UDNR to staff an AIS Wildlife Technician at each of the Reclamation (public) owned reservoirs

or lakes during the boating season, (Memorial Day through Labor Day).

The UDWR shall station at least one AIS Wildlife Technician at each of the following Reclamation reservoirs and lakes:
Willard Bay Reservoir, Rockport Reservoir, East Canyon Reservoir, Utah Lake, Pineview Reservoir, Deer Creek Reservoir, Jordanelle Reservoir, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Huntington North Reservoir, Scofield Reservoir, and Lake Powell.

These Specialists will provide interdicting pre-launch and exiting inspection services on watercraft to prevent the spreading of AIS.

In addition, the AIS Wildlife Technicians will provide outreach and education to the public on the prevention and dangers of spreading AIS, along with how to self-decontaminate a boat and equipment using the Clean, Drain and Dry protocol defined in the Utah AIS Management Plan.

All of these activities directly serve to minimize the damages caused by species overabundance within the State of Utah.
