Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention

This award will allow Utah Department of Natural Resources to implement the State of Utah Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan at water bodies owned by Reclamation.

This award will provide funding to UDNR to staff one or more AIS Wildlife Technician at each of the Reclamation (public) owned

reservoirs or lakes, and Echo Reservoir (state owned), during the boating season, (Memorial Day through Labor Day).

The UDWR shall station at least one AIS Wildlife Technician at each of the following Reclamation reservoirs and lakes:
Willard Bay Reservoir, Rockport Reservoir, East Canyon Reservoir, Utah Lake, Pineview Reservoir, Deer Creek Reservoir, Jordanelle Reservoir, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Huntington North Reservoir, Scofield Reservoir, Echo Reservoir, and Lake Powell.

These Specialists will provide interdicting pre-launch and exiting inspection services on watercraft to prevent the spreading of AIS.

In addition, the AIS Wildlife Technicians will provide outreach and education to the public on the prevention and dangers of spreading AIS, along with how to self-decontaminate a boat and equipment using the Clean, Drain and Dry protocol defined in the Utah AIS Management Plan.

All activities directly serve to minimize the damages caused by species overabundance within the State of Utah.

RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT The Recipient will be responsible for hiring, training, and overseeing AIS Wildlife Technicians to perform the following work at Reclamation owned lakes and reservoirs listed above:
Interdicting pre-launch inspections of watercraft.

Exit inspections of watercraft.

Decontamination of watercraft to kill and remove AIS.

Public outreach and education about the dangers of AIS, and how to decontaminate watercraft using Clean, Drain, and Dry protocol.

Provide a detailed quantitative report to Reclamation on inspections, decontamination, and outreach activities.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
The Intermediary will be required to provide matching funds in an amount at least equal to the RCDI grant.

The respective minimum and maximum grant amount per Intermediary is $50,000.00 and $250,000.00.

The Recipient and Beneficiary, but not the Intermediary, must be located in a city or town that has a population of 50,000 or less inhabitants.
