In light of ongoing high levels of vertical transmission in Mozambique, the recipient(s) will support Mozambique’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to fully scale the recently revised Mentor Mother Strategy, which formalizes a system of peer based case management for HIV positive pregnant and breastfeeding
women (PBFW).
The recipient(s) will provide technical assistance to the national MOH prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) program, provincial health authorities, and PEPFAR partners as they implement peer based psychosocial support and case management for PBFW, HIV exposed infants, and newly diagnosed HIV positive children under 5 years of age.
The recipient(s) will directly support implementation of the mentor mother strategy at a number of demonstration sites in provinces and districts with historically high levels of vertical transmission, including districts in Nampula and Zambezia provinces.
As such, implementation will be at national, provincial, district, and sub-district levels.
