Notice of Intent to Issue Funding Opportunity Announcement entitled Developing Technologies to Advance the Understanding of State of Stress and Geomechanical Impacts within the Subsurface

The purpose of this Notice of Intent is to provide potential applicants advance notice that the Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory's Carbon Storage Program, plans to release a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), number DE-FOA-0001826 entitled “Developing Technologies

to Advance the Understanding of State of Stress and Geomechanical Impacts within the Subsurface." If released, the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is expected to focus on:
1) development of capabilities to better measure and understand the in-situ state of stress, which is a key variable in predicting geomechanical impacts, and 2) development of capabilities to predict the pressure migration and the geomechanical impacts of this pressure in the storage complex.

Two Areas of Interest are anticipated, as:
1) Tools and Methods for Determining Maximum Principal Stress in the Deep Subsurface, and 2) Methods for Understanding Impact of Vertical Pressure Migration due to Injection on State of Subsurface Stress PLEASE NOTE THAT NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THIS NOTICE.

Please do not submit questions or respond to this Notice of Intent.
