Yellow Perch Toxicity Study

THERE IS NO FULL ANNOUNCEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS NOTICE.

This is a Notice of Intent to award a Cooperative Agreement between the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the University of Maryland, Wye Research and Education Center, for the purpose of implementing Yellow Perch Toxicity Studies.

The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: Support the Off-Refuge U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service Investigation, ?Effects of salinity derived from road salt and suspended sediments on yellow perch (Perca flavescens) egg and larval survival in the Severn River, Mattawoman Creek, and Choptank Rivers, Maryland? by conducting toxicity tests with eggs and larvae.

The USFWS will collect yellow perch egg masses from the Severn and Choptank Rivers and deliver them in insulated coolers to the testing facility.

The testing facility will conduct preliminary investigations on the effect of salinity on eggs and larvae.

These tests will compare the sensitivity of eggs and larvae from these two rivers.

Initial testing will determine the optimal salinity (generated from clean estuarine water), as well as the possible toxicity of road salt on eggs and larvae.

This Single Source Award is being made in accordance with Department of the Interior Policy 505 DM 2.14 B(4), which allows for award without competition to an applicant who is uniquely qualified to perform the activity based on, technical expertise.

Substantial involvement on the part of the USFWS is anticipated for the successful completion of the objectives to be funded.

In particular, the USFWS will be responsible for the collection and delivery of yellow perch egg masses.

In accordance with 505 DM 2.9 B the Service will be substantially involved.
