Model Approaches to Statewide Legal Assistance Systems

The goal of this program is to protect and enhance essential rights and benefits of needy older persons in states across the country, through the creation and maintenance of well integrated, cost-efficient legal service delivery systems that effectively target scarce legal resources to older adults in

the greatest social or economic need and that are an integral part of the broad aging service network.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
Eligible applicants include domestic public or private and non-profit entities including state and local governments, Indian tribal governments and organizations (American Indian/Alaskan Native/Native American), faith-based organizations, community based organizations, hospitals and institutions of higher education.

The intent of this Program Announcement (PA) is to expand Model Approaches projects beyond the 24 previously funded states.

Therefore, the 24 states that have previously received Model Approaches funding are not eligible to apply under this PA.

The twenty-four (24) ineligible states are Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.

Within an eligible state, proposals in response to this PA will be accepted from one of two eligible applicant categories.

Eligible applicants are: 1.

The entity within an eligible state that currently houses (or proposes to house) the State Legal Assistance Developer; or 2.

An entity within an eligible state that is experienced in providing low-cost services to older persons through a senior legal helpline (or proposes to develop and operate a senior legal helpline).
