2017 State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Base Grant

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is pleased to release the 2017 State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Base Grant Funding Opportunity Announcement.

The SHIP was created by Congress in 1990 to provide education and assistance to Medicare-eligible individuals, their families

and caregivers to assist in making informed health insurance decisions.

There are currently 54 active SHIP grants; one in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

The funds awarded through this application are for a three year project period running April 1, 2017 through March 31, 202 0. Eligible applicants include state offices of insurance, the state Medicaid offices, or the departments on aging as designated by the state or territory, who demonstrate their ability and commitment to providing SHIP services state-wide.

All awards will be subject to the availability of federal funds and have a project period of up to three years.

One SHIP grant will be awarded to cover each state, the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

Eligible applicants include state units on aging (SUA), state departments of insurance (DOI), or the state Medicaid agency, as directed by the Governor.

Foreign entities are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
