Enhancing Transparency and Accountability in Prosecutors’ Offices

Under the Merida Initiative, the United States has forged strong partnerships to support Mexico’s efforts towards implementation of oral, adversarial criminal justice reforms at the federal and state levels.

With improved procedures, training, citizen oversight, data collection, etc, TCOs

will find it harder to operate with impunity in Mexico.

Ultimately, this project should support the goals of the INL Accountability and Transparency (AT) Program.

The three over-arching goals of the AT program are (1) to improve the delivery of justice, and remove opportunities for corruption; (2) to target and remove complicit actors within the criminal justice system; and (3) to empower NGO’s to publicly hold the criminal justice system, and justice officials accountable.
