BLM-(MT), Pompeys Pillar Visitor Services

Background:
This agreement provides for multifaceted support to the Bureau of Land Management and the public through collaborative implementation of a variety of programs that support the visitor experience at Pompeys Pillar National Monument (PPNM), including interpretation and outreach, fundraising

through gift shop sales and special events, raising public awareness of the site, recognition of volunteerism, maintenance/grounds keeping, and assistance with the fee collection program.

Objectives:
To support the development of recreation, interpretation, maintenance, fee collection, and general visitor use experiences through a partnership between PPNM and the recipient.

Formally identify resource support and sharing between PPNM and the recipient regarding the operation and use of the gift store located in the PPNM interpretive center.

Create and inspire more opportunities for the recipient and PPNM to partner and share resources that are tied to the development and improvement of the Monumentâ¿¿s visitor services.

Raise awareness of PPNM and opportunities for volunteerism on site; cohost volunteer training opportunities with BLM; provide recognition and appreciation of volunteers; and aid with volunteer mileage reimbursement.

Specifically, the following activities would be implemented in collaboration with BLM:
- Cooperation in delivering educational and interpretive services includes:
offering interpretive and educational programs to regional youth and the visiting public; research and development of interpretive, educational, and outreach materials; and visitor use assistance.

- Operation of a book store and gift shop within the interpretive center at Pompeys Pillar National Monument (PPNM).

The book store would be operated to enrich the visitor experience at Pompeys Pillar, by providing meaningful and relevant supplemental information and souvenirs, as well as basic supplies to support use of the area (e.g.

bug spray, sun screen, etc.).

Funding generated through sales would be used to support on-site programs and projects.

- Support of special events includes the annual Clark Days festival, and community outreach activities, and volunteer events, such as National Public Lands Day.

- Maintenance and improvement of facilities at PPNM, such as landscaping, maintenance of interpretive exhibits, and development of new exhibits.

- Assistance with administering the fee collection program, utilizing volunteers to serve as greeters and provide assistance with sales of daily and annual passes.

Public Benefit:
The public will benefit through interpretive and educational programs, development and improvement of new and existing site facilities, outstanding visitor experiences and services, and special projects and events to foster connections between the visiting public and PPNM.
