App-Making Challenge

It is estimated that India has over 123 million smartphone users, and the Indian smartphone market is the fastest growing in the Asia-Pacific region.

By 2016, there will be more smartphones in use in India than the United States.

The smartphone quickly is becoming one of the most important

ways to connect with Indian audiences, particularly urban youth, media, business leaders, and government officials.

As mobile phones become more commonplace, more users will turn to mobile applications for information, connecting with other online users, and mobilizing around issue areas.

While many people use mobile applications to access social media platforms or to collect news and financial information, mobile applications also can play an important role to improve communities.

Since Mumbai is one of India’s most wired cities, U. S. Consulate General Mumbai proposes a western India (Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh) mobile app-making challenge that will source mobile apps in designated issues areas.

The winners of the app-making challenge will receive funding to fully develop their apps, make them available for free download, and service the apps for one year.

The challenge will serve as a competitive tender for the best mobile app proposals based on substance and design concepts.
