NIJ FY 2010 Evaluation of Programs to Reduce Gang Membership, Crime and Violence
Since 2000, there has been a steady increase in gang membership and in gang-related crime and violence (Dinkes, Cataldi, Kena et al., 2006). Faced with increasingly limited resources, many communities are struggling to address this problem. Although there are numerous multi-strategy, community-level programs attempting to address gang issues, there is a need for rigorous evaluations to determine program efficacy. NIJ seeks evaluations?using the most appropriate and rigorous methods?that examine gang prevention and/or intervention programs.
