Use of the Nasa Physical Sciences Informatics System Appendix G

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) announces the release of “Appendix G” as an amendment to the NASA Research Announcement (NRA) entitled “Use of the NASA Physical Sciences Informatics System” Solicitation NNH17ZTT001N.

The

Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD) originally released the NRA NNH17ZTT001N on September 15, 201 7. In July 2020 HEOMD transferred management for this NRA and all subsequent appendices to SMD.Appendix G (NNH20ZDA014N) is available via the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System, or NSPIRES.

This is a high-level summary notice, and it is not the complete or verbatim text for this Appendix.

The main NRA and Appendix G’s full text is available only by visiting https://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and searching NNH20ZDA014N.

Proposals for Appendix G are due on December 15, 202 0. The Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) Division within NASA’s the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) funds this research.

NASA's Physical Sciences Research Program conducts fundamental and applied physical sciences research, with the objective of enabling exploration and pioneering scientific discovery.

NASA's experiments in the various disciplines of physical science reveal how physical systems respond to the near absence of gravity.

They also reveal how other forces that on Earth are small, as compared to gravity, can dominate system behavior in space.Appendix G solicits ground-based research proposals to generate new scientific insights by utilizing experimental data residing in NASA’s Physical Sciences Informatics (PSI) system (http://psi.nasa.gov), an online database of completed physical science reduced-gravity flight experiments conducted on the International Space Station (ISS), Space Shuttle flights, Free-flyers, or commercial cargo flights to and from the ISS, and related ground-based studies. This NRA, subject to limitation, is open to researchers in all categories of U. S. and non-U. S. organizations, including educational institutions, industry, nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers, and other U. S. Government agencies.

The NRA and all appendices are part of the NASA Science Assistance Listing CFDA Number 4 3. 00 1. All SMD financial assistance complies with 14 CFR 1250, i.e., the provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, that ensures that no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any SMD-funded research.

As a condition of receipt of funding, the institution acknowledges and agrees that it must comply (and require any beneficiaries, e.g., subgrantees, contractors, successors, transferees, and assignees to comply) with applicable provisions of national laws and policies prohibiting discrimination.Every organization that intends to submit a proposal in response to this NRA must be registered with NSPIRES, and such registration must identify the authorized organization representative(s) who will submit the electronic proposal.

Proposals must be submitted by an authorized official of the proposing organization.NNH20ZDA014N awards grants, cooperative agreements, and inter- or intra-agency transfer agreements, depending on the nature of the work proposed, the proposing organization, and/or program requirements.

The typical period of performance for an award is two years.

A lapse in Government funding, a public health, or other emergency may impact the NRA.

In such cases, proposers should visit NSPIRES, the official NASA source for the NRA and any program Appendix G updates.Email comments or questions to the contacts referenced in the full solicitation or at the end of this summary notice and indicate in the subject line:
