Internships to Increase Public Access to Archival Resources in the NPS National Capital Region

Curated archival collections are primary data sources that provide information for long-term research needs.

Few students in areas of cultural resource stewardship are trained in the management of archival collections.

This project is a partnership of the University of Maryland Ischool

and the NPS, which offers unique career exploration opportunities.

NPS will mentor students and help them acquire valuable practical experience and build relationships with professionals and organizations in the field of archival management, preservation and curation of museum archives.

The program assists interns gain experience to build their resumes in this field.

Participating in archival curation activities helps students develop and demonstrate research strategies, evaluation skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and participate in networked conversation, and use information ethically.

This position is ideal for a student interested in Archeology, American History, Archives, Library Science and material culture studies.
