SAMO Youth Leadership Program

SMMF and NPS will work together to plan, coordinate, and implement an integrated youth work-experience program.

Both parties will work together to recruit and hire youth from schools in Los Angeles and Oxnard and provide direction on park facilities and community projects to be accomplished by

youth.

The SMMF and NPS are committed to providing youth with a safe and enjoyable introductory outdoor work experience through hands-on training work assignments (DOI Priority 1 0. b.3 Ensure workplace environment is conducive to employee productivity and safety; DOI Key Initiative:
Access to outdoor recreation opportunities).

The public purpose of this project is to serve the youth of the greater Los Angeles area.

The SAMO Youth Program provides continuous employment experience and mentoring for diverse students from their junior year in high school through their junior year in college.

The goals of the program are to create a rich work experience that 1) promotes an ethic for conservation and stewardship, 2) inspires talented students toward careers in public service, and 3) provides job experience that produces competitive job skills.
