Hopi Credit Association (HCA) is a certified Community Development Financial Institution based in Keams Canyon, Arizona. The Awardee provides financial services and technical assistance to members of the Hopi Tribe living on the Hopi Reservation in Northern Arizona.

CDFI Awards for Hopi Credit Association


NACA (2009) - $789,949

The Hopi Credit Association (HCA) is a certified Native CDFI established in 1952 to serve the Hopi Indian reservation in northern Arizona. The organization provides development services and loans to help its member’s purchase, build, or improve a home, pay or consolidate bills, make a consumer purchase, attend college, or start or expand a small business. HCA will use its FY09 Financial Assistance awards as lending capital.



NA (2008) - $409,151

Hopi Credit Association is a certified Native CDFI established in 1998. The CDFI provides various financial products to individuals, businesses, and villages of Hopi reservation in northern Arizona. The organization will use the 2008 NACA FA award as lending capital. It will use the TA grant to: 1) hire staff for financial literacy training; 2) pay for staff training; and 3) purchase computers and upgrade information technology. HCA was awarded $409,151 ($333,280 Financial Assistance - $75,871 Technical Assistance).



FA (2007) - $557,500

Although established over 50 years ago, Hopi Credit Association (HCA) decided in 1988 to become the first certified Native CDFI in the country. HCA provides capital, financial education, training and technical assistance to members of the Hopi Indian Reservation. It will use its FY07 Financial Assistance award to expand its loan capacity and its Technical Assistance grant to purchase a company vehicle to help the staff better serve its rural and far-ranging client base.



NACA (2004) - $440,000

Hopi Credit Association (HCA) is receiving an award of $440,000, including almost $400,000 of loan capital that will allow the awardee to create a loan fund for auto loans. The remaining $40,000 is a technical assistance grant that will allow HCA to obtain consulting services to design a website; purchase and install computer and software technology for staff; provide training for staff and board of directors; and provide operating support for the Awardee"s activities.



CORE (2000) - $500,000

The Fund"s $500,000 loan will enable HCA to expand its existing housing-related lending activities and increase its work with small business borrowers. The Fund"s assistance will also help HCA remain a vital source of low-cost credit to members of the Hopi Tribe.



SECA (1999) - $40,000

The technical assistance award will be used for Y2K compliance and for staff and board training.



CORE (1998) - $500,000

The $500,000 capital grant will be matched with a $500,000 grant from the Hopi Tribal Council and used as equity to leverage additional investment from area banks.
