The Sequoyah Fund (formerly the Eastern Bank of Cherokee Indians Community Development Corporation) is a non-profit corporation created in 1998 to promote the social welfare of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians on the Cherokee Indian Reservation and surrounding Appalachian counties in North Carolina. The Sequoyah Fund"s mission is to provide training and resources to support entrepreneurship, small business expansion, affordable housing, and community development on the Cherokee Indian Reservation and among Cherokee Tribal members.

NA (2008) - $557,250

The Sequoyah Fund is a certified Native CDFI established in 1998. The Sequoyah Fund provides training, entrepreneurship, business start up and expanding, and community development on the Qualla Boundary. They will use the 2008 NACA FA award as lending capital along with the TA grant to: 1) hire consultants to complete a market analysis and create a business development plan, 2) purchase workbooks for client technical assistance, and 3) print marketing brochures. The Sequayah Fund was awarded $557,250 ($500,000 Financial Assistance - $57,250 Technical Assistance).



NACA (2007) - $665,583

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Community Development Center (Sequoyah Fund) is a certified CDFI established in 2005. The Sequoyah Fund provides business loans and services to the Qualla Boundary in eastern North Carolina. The Sequoyah Fund will use the 2007 NACA Financial Assistance grant to launch a new loan product geared toward nonprofit organizations that operate private enterprises. The CDFI will use the Technical Assistance grant to build the capacity of staff, strengthen partnerships with nonprofit organizations in the target market, and improve its marketing and outreach activities.



NACA (2005) - $140,000

The Sequoyah Fund will use a 2005 Native American CDFI Assistance (NACA) Program technical assistance grant of $140,000 to (1) purchase accounting and loan management software; (2) obtain consulting services to update their loan policies and procedures and develop a capitalization plan; (3) support operations; and (4) attend training in CDFI operations.
