The Lakota Fund (TLF) was established in 1986 to promote the socioeconomic sustainability of the Oglala Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The Pine Ridge Reservation encompasses Shannon County in southwest South Dakota which has been one of the poorest counties in the United States for the last 20 years. In the last three years, TLF reports having made 91 loans totaling nearly $340,000. In its thirteen years, TLF reports having made over 400 loans totaling over $1.5 million. TLF currently provides microenterprise and small business loans up to $25,000.

Lakota Funds is one of the oldest CDFIs serving Native Americans. Established in 1986, this certified Native CDFI serves the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, home to the Oglala Lakota (Sioux) Nation in southwestern South Dakota. This nonprofit loan fund provides financing for small businesses and affordable housing. The Technical Assistance grant will support staffing costs, including the newly-created positions of Planning and Development Coordinator and Loan Counselor as the organization increases its volume of loan activity and develops new products. The CDFI was awarded $149,085.



NACA (2007) - $135,256

The Lakota Fund is a certified Native CDFI established in 1992. Awardee provides business loans and technical assistance to residents on the Pine Ridge Reservation. They not only provide lending products, housing developments, and developmental services, but has created a Business Institute affiliate to serve as a leveraging vehicle to promote community economic development. The Lakota Fund will use the 2007 TA grant for product development, marketing materials, new computer hardware and MIS system implementation, and staff/Board training.



NACA (2006) - $118,333

The Lakota Fund (TLF) of Kyle, South Dakota was established in 1986. TLF is a micro and small business lender serving the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. TLF will use a 2006 NACA Technical Assistance Award of $118,333 to increase its capacity to serve its target market and to begin making larger business loans. The Technical Assistance Award will be used to hire an attorney for legal work, to acquire underwriting training for the staff, to obtain the Exceptional Assistant loan software, and to support operations.



CORE (2000) - $330,000

The CDFI Fund"s $330,000 award ($250,000 capital grant and $80,000 technical assistance grant) will help build TLF"s capacity as a lender through consulting services, the acquisition of technology and staff and board training.



SECA (1999) - $47,000

The technical assistance grant will enable the Lakota Fund to engage in a strategic planning and reorganization process train its staff and purchase two new computers.
