Asian Wealth Moves to Discretionary Management and ESG Investments

The Asset spoke with UBS' Mischa Eckart, managing director, investment platforms and solutions and head of client investment specialists Asia-Pacific, and Mario Knoepfel, director, sustainable investing for Asia-Pacific to gain insight into investing trends in Asia.

According to Eckart, across Asia-Pacific the mandate penetration is at 13%. His Zurich-based bank has seen an scaling up among clients in Asia that chose for discretionary management as they have experienced a significant increase in their wealth.

The Swiss bank has furnished US$93 million into the Sustainable Solutions Fund III, the newly-closed growth equity fund from Al Gore's Generation Investment Management. Around one-third of the investment originated from Asian clients.

There is a high demand for more investment opportunities in Asia's wealthy hubs. These investments are for sustainability purposes.
