Business Leaders Need to Speak out on Social Issues

Australian business leaders Diane Smith-Gander and Carol Schwartz, who have been acknowledged for their contribution to Australia across the business sector, believe that business leaders shouldn't "bite their tongues" when it comes to calling out and taking action on social issues. They should have a voice on the matter.

While some business leaders were "very vocal" and prepared to speak on social issues, it was fair enough that others would rather not.

According to Schwartz, business leaders should not be criticised for speaking out on social issues as if the business is separate from community. She added that business is not separate from community, business is an integral part of the community.

Smith-Gander, when asked if she thought corporate leaders should express their take on social issues, said, "I think it's very important that as a nation we step into some of these issues, including the republic."
