Support Services for Crisis Intervention Training Programs

The Sandra Bland Act, promulgated by the Texas State Legislature on September 1, 2018, directed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards to require corrections officers to complete an 8-hour education and training program on de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.

sheriffs initiated an effort to provide Texas jailers a 40-hour CIT course delivered by their own-trained trainers.

A coalition of numerous entities, including NIC, were involved in the development of these curricula.

The state designated training site for this project is the residential-style academy at CMIT, University of Sam Houston.
