Strengthening the Health System Capacity to Implement HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment Services in the Republic of South Africa under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

This project will have an important role in the attainment of PEPFAR and UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals in the Republic of South Africa.

In alignment with World Health Organization (WHO) health system building blocks, activities will reflect the South African National Department of Health’s priorities

in human resources for health (HRH), service delivery, information systems, and leadership and governance for sustainable results.

Activities will include evidence-based human and institutional capacity development, particularly focused on HRH, but also, other system support that is required for successful HIV/AIDS and TB service delivery on a national and sub-national level.Expected outcomes include increased competencies among HRH providing HIV/AIDS and TB services, as well as better PEPFAR HRH data connection, access, and utilization to effectively and efficiently manage HRH.

There will be improved institutional capacity for workforce development and management as well as stronger regulation, education and clinical practice policies that improve, scale and deliver HIV/AIDS and TB services.

Finally, outcomes of this project include improved non-governmental institutional capacity to deliver HIV/AIDS and integrated health services as part of the national and local HIV/AIDS and TB response.
