Request for Information Building Technologies: Lighting R&D Opportunities

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to seek broad stakeholder input to inform the strategic direction of the DOE Lighting Research & Development (R&D) portfolio.

The purpose of issuing this RFI is to better understand how lighting research goals can be refined to reflect

evolving technology needs and to inform related R&D technologies.

Specifically, the DOE EERE program is interested in gathering information relevant to four (4) different topic areas:
(1) Identify impactful lighting R&D opportunities who immediate applications are beyond general illumination, but have potential to help save energy in the built environment; (2) Identify impactful lighting R&D opportunities within general illumination that are absent (or under-represented) in the 2018 DOE Solid-State Lighting (SSL) R&D Opportunities (RDO) document; (3) Validate the importance of existing R&D opportunities described in the RDO and provide additional context or support, and (4) Provide other comments or information that could improve the quality of the RDO or the general direction of the DOE Lighting R&D Program.

-Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) - Two- and four-year IHEs (including community colleges) accredited in, and having a campus located in the US, acting on behalf of their faculty members.Special Instructions for International Branch Campuses of US IHEs: If the proposal includes funding to be provided to an international branch campus of a US institution of higher education (including through use of subawards and consultant arrangements), the proposer must explain the benefit(s) to the project of performance at the international branch campus, and justify why the project activities cannot be performed at the US campus.
