Research and development under this Funding Opportunity Announcement is intended to increase the beneficial use and advance the management of Coal Combustion Residuals, thereby reducing the volume of Coal Combustion Residuals needed to be disposed of in impoundments while protecting the environment and
the health and safety of the public.

Confirmation of acceptance in an NSF-approved graduate degree program is required at the time of Fellowship acceptance, by May 1, 2013.
Prospective Fellowsmust enroll in an accredited United States university, college, or non-profit academic institution of higher education offering advanced degrees in science and engineering by Fall 2013.
