Iraqi Alumni Association Development

The U. S. Embassy in Baghdad invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to assist in the development of the Iraqi Alumni Associations –Central Chapter (DHA Development Horizon Association) that includes Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, Babil, Wasit, Najaf, Karbala and Qadisia provinces.

The

DHA organization is one of three alumni associations formed by Iraqis who have participated in U. S. government-funded exchange programs that involved travel to the United States (i.e., IYLEP, IVLP, Fulbright, etc.).

Founded in 2014, DHA was established to provide alumni with opportunities for networking, professional development, community service, and continued contact with the U. S. Mission.

The association, having become less active in recent years), needs assistance with organizational development, including:
re-formulating its vision, mission, and goals; developing organizational and leadership structures; training in leadership skills; completing the process to legally re-register as NGOs; developing and executing a plan of activities that support its mission and goals, which should align with those of Embassy Baghdad and the United States Government; conducting fundraising; planning and budgeting; developing a communications strategy; and organizing outreach and recruitment of new members who meet the eligibility requirements.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
Applicants are limited to states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments (as determined by the Secretary of the Interior) acting together or through agreements with other public and private entities.

Faith- and community-based, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations are ineligible as applicants, but OJJDP encourages them to partner with eligible applicants as a community provider of services, if applicable and appropriate.

Eligible applicants must provide direct services to youth who are younger than 18 years of age and their parents.

An eligible applicant may designate a subunit of government (for example, county probation department, district attorney’s office, or pretrial services agency) as the authorized representative.

For example, the county executive may designate the county probation or district attorney’s office as its representative when applying for this grant.

In such cases, the applicant must submit an authorization letter from the eligible agency or organization.

OJJDP welcomes joint applications from two or more eligible applicants; however, one applicant must be clearly indicated as the primary applicant (for correspondence, award, and management purposes) and the others indicated as co-applicants.
