The US Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to generate a large-scale (nationwide) estimate of recreational fish harvest from inland waters to inform current and future fisheries management.
As the climate changes, having a baseline estimate
of angler use will assist managers identify priority issues to address.
Given the diversity in state and local fishing regulations, along with differences and dynamics of all the recreational freshwater fisheries in the U.S., modeling will be necessary to generate any estimate of harvest and angler use.
This funding opportunity will serve as a regional pilot project to estimate harvest in the Southeast US and develop methodology that can be scaled up to a national framework
