VOYA Historic Structures Repairs and Painting

The project will preserve the five historic structures that are in the National Historic Register.

The buildings were constructed in the early 1920s and 1930s by the state of Minnesota and Civilian Conservation Corps.

The building represent the rustic characteristics of the federal relief

program of park structures constructed throughout the nation in the 1930s.

The work that will be accomplished in this package will protect the investment of previous rehab projects to these buildings.

It is also a visitor destination site for us to share the significance of these structures to the visitors who come to Voyageurs.

The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government’s objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks.

The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects on historic structures in the park.

This project will preserve the exterior wood siding, by repairing, scraping, and painting, on five operational buildings located in the district.

The buildings wood exterior paint finish is cracking and starting to peel.

This includes 11,800 square feet of siding to be scraped and painted.

Replace 600 square feet of wood siding.

Scrape and paint 36 windows, 9 entry doors and 3 garage doors.

Bare wood will be painted and 2 coats of latex paint will be both brushed and sprayed on the structures.

Scaffolding and ladders will be utilized to accomplish the high areas.
