BJA FY 21 Smart Policing Initiative

The Department of Justice is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights, increases access to justice, supports crime victims, protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community.

Strategies for Policing Innovation) provides funding to enable police agencies to effectively use evidence-based practices, data, and technology.

Recipients of funding under the FY 2021 SPI Program will establish police-researcher partnerships; test promising crime prevention, response, and reduction practices; improve police accountability and build their capacity to analyze and use crime intelligence and data; implement and test justice information-sharing technology; and evaluate their effectiveness.

For this solicitation, "justice information-sharing technology" refers to any technology (hardware and/or software, hosted residentially or remotely) that plays a role in the collection, storage, sharing, and analysis of criminal justice data.
