Strengthening detection of emerging infectious diseases in India

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to build upon and strengthen the detection, response and prevention work initiated under the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) in India.

Specifically it will:
1) advance the previous contributions by identifying etiologies, risk

factors and outcomes of illness among patients admitted with acute febrile illness (AFI) in selected high burden areas in India; 2) generate data on population health-seeking behavior and utilization patterns in selected epidemiological zones of India and use these data to ascertain burden of disease for key etiologies; 3) evaluate public health impact and cost-effectiveness of implementing expanded and advanced diagnostic testing at district and sub-district levels; 4) build models of linkages to national and state emergency responses, strengthen laboratory surveillance overall; and 5) strengthen One Health activities to promote human health, and model disease patterns across India.

One Health advocates the concept that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment.
