The Fish and Wildlife Service, within the Department of the Interior has announced funding in the amount of $1,600,000 to support the Asian Elephant Conservation Fund.

The Asian Elephant Conservation Fund is soliciting project proposals for the conservation of the Asian elephant throughout its range.

In 1997, with recent awareness of the increasing threat to the welfare of the already endangered Asian elephant the Asian Elephant Conservation Act was signed into law.
