Smart Grid Capable Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment

The National Energy Technology Laboratory within the Department of Energy is providing $12 million in funding research with the near-term objective of reducing electric vehicles charging infrastructure cost.

Specifically the funding, for which eligibility is unrestricted, is focused on the development of electric vehicle supply equipment that is capable of implementing smart charging of electric vehicles, referred to as smart grid-capable EVSE. A goal of the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability Smart Grid R&D Program is to develop and implement smart grid to support transportation electrification.

This program is part of the, Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, Research, Development and Analysis, which through research, development, demonstration, technology transfer, and education and outreach activities seeks to modernize and expand America’s electric delivery system to ensure a more reliable and robust electricity supply, and enhance economic and national security.
