Social Entrepreneurs Needed to Address Present-Day Inequities and Gaps in India

Ravi Sreedharan, Founder-Director, and Lopamudra Sanyal, Research Fellow at the Indian School of Development Management (ISDM), tackle the work and innovations by social entrepreneurs that continue to redefine social norms.

The authors discuss why India needs more social entrepreneurs to address inequities and gaps today. They also list vital contributors, such as Aravind Eyecare in the space of healthcare.

Sreedharan and Sanyal also write how the "energetic youth of today requires greater opportunities to be mentored and guided to be able to incubate and initiate enterprises that respond to planetary, human and social challenges that the world is seeing."

Sreedharan and Sanyal also mention the seminal contribution of organisations like Ashoka, Villgro and others in shaping, encouraging and creating social entrepreneurs in the country. They recommend that India and the world today needs those who lead with values and work to respond to "the emerging needs in society".
