NEA Research Grants in the Arts, FY2020

Grant applications previously submitted to the Research:
Art Works category will now be submitted to the Research Grants in the Arts category.

The Arts Endowment’s support of a project may start on May 1, 2020, or any time thereafter.

Grants generally may cover a period of performance

of up to two years, with an exception for projects that include primary data collection as part of the proposed activity.

Projects that include primary data collection may request up to three years.

Grant Program Description These grants support research that investigates the value and/or impact of the arts, either as individual components of the U. S. arts ecology or as they interact with each other and/or with other domains of American life.

Research Grants in the Arts offers support for projects in two areas:
• Track One:
Value and Impact.

These are matching grants ranging from $10,000-$30,000 for research projects that aim to examine the value and/or impact of the arts in any topic area(s) by using data and methods appropriate to the proposed research questions.

• Track Two:
Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs.

These are matching grants ranging from $30,000-$100,000 for research projects that aim to test the causal or inferred-causal impact of the arts on individual or cohort outcomes by using experimental or quasi-experimental design methods appropriate to the proposed research questions.
