U.S. Embassy Mozambique PAS Annual Program Statement – Cycle 1

The U. S. Embassy Mozambique Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U. S. Department of State is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program.

This is an Annual Program Statement, outlining our funding priorities, the strategic themes we focus on,


and the procedures for submitting requests for funding.

Please carefully follow all instructions below.

Purpose of Small Grants:
PAS Mozambique invites proposals for programs that strengthen cultural ties between the United States and Mozambique through cultural and exchange programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation.

All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with an American expert, organization, or institution in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U. S. policy and perspectives.

Examples of PAS Small Grants Program programs include, but are not limited to:
· Academic and professional lectures, seminars, and speaker programs; · Artistic and cultural workshops, joint performances, and exhibitions; · Cultural exchange.

Priority Program Areas:
Countering Violent Extremism:
Fostering community resilience to terrorism and violent extremism in Mozambique.

English language:
Increasing access to English learning.

Women’s empowerment:
Providing established and emerging female leaders with the tools needed to advance community needs.

Entrepreneurship:
Promoting good business practices and providing business training for young entrepreneurs.

The Public Affairs Section encourages applications from U. S. and Non-U.

S Entities: • Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience; • Non-profit or governmental educational institutions; • Governmental institutions.

Individuals on a case-by-case basis may be considered.

For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.

Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society. SATA CommHealth and Bliss Restaurant landed Social Enterprise of the Year titles, while Bettr Barista Coffee Academy bagged the award for Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year.
