Pacific Islands Good Governance Initiative

Create an initiative in the Pacific Islands that can promote sound, just, and responsive governance within the region to empower citizens, help combat corruption, and strengthen nations' sovereignty.

Transparent and accountable governments that promote civil society and rule of law are essential

to strengthening the free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Programs should address the most pressing governance needs of the Pacific Islands, including multilateral engagement and advocacy to promote public sector accountability and tackle corruption; promote high standards investment; implement debt sustainability practices; strengthen governance institutions; increase public participation in policymaking, especially of women and marginalized populations; promote access to quality and reliable media and other sources of information; and strengthen rule of law, fundamental freedoms, and human rights.
