His vision was achieved in 1986 through the creation of the World Food Prize, which is now considered the foremost international award for the achievements of individuals who advance human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world.

The World Food Prize recognizes contributions in any field involved in improving global food supply, including food and agriculture science and technology, manufacturing, marketing, nutrition, economics, poverty alleviation, political leadership, and the social sciences.
