DOD Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s, Leveraging Approaches for Innovation in Care and Support Award
The intent of the FY21 PRARP LEAP-InCASA is to support innovative and impactful research that improves the quality of life and care for individuals, families, and care providers living with AD/ADRD.
The proposed work should innovatively challenge existing research paradigms or exhibit high levels
of creativity within the context of the PRARP’s mission and vision.
This can include innovations and research for symptom reduction (e.g., cognitive, behavioral, function, mood), resiliency factors, increasing or maintaining independence, and support for families and care providers.The FY21 PRARP LEAP-InCASA supports multi-institutional, harmonized research initiatives.
As such, applications to the FY21 PRARP LEAP-InCASA require a Coordinating Center and a minimum of two Partnering Sites, representing at least three separate institutions within the application package.
While the Coordinating Center provides overall infrastructure and support, each Partnering Site should develop its own unique research initiative that will be part of the overall project.
The application should also demonstrate the study team’s experience in both military risk factor-related research and AD/ADRD as suited to the proposed work.
Given the patient-centered intent of the FY21 PRARP LEAP-InCASA, animal research is prohibited.Role of the Coordinating Center:
The Coordinating Center is responsible for providing overall leadership and management infrastructure for all research initiatives.
In addition, the Coordinating Center will participate as a separate study arm for each Partnering Site’s study, to include participant accrual and participation in the proposed research at the Coordinating Center’s performance site.
Therefore, it is expected that the Coordinating Center will have the appropriate experience and resources to function as a research performance site for each Partnering Site.
The Coordinating Center and all Partnering Sites should work together to harmonize research protocols, to develop participant accrual strategies, and to analyze data.
Plans for interactions between/among the partners should be well-detailed.
The plans must include communication, decision-making, allocation of resources, and coordination of research progress and results among all Partnering Sites.
Each Partnering Site should also provide an intellectual property plan to resolve potential intellectual and material property issues and to remove multi-institutional barriers that might interfere with achieving high levels of cooperation to ensure the successful completion of this award.
The Coordinating Center should describe prior experience with administration of multi-institutional research initiatives.
The Coordinating Center must be from a different institution than the Partnering Sites.Role of the Partnering Sites:
A minimum of two Partnering Sites is required.
Each Partnering Site should develop its own unique research initiative as relevant to the overall application design.
All Partnering Sites must have appropriate experience, resources, and participant accrual experience toward initiating research activities that will be harmonized with the Coordinating Center.
Each Partnering Site should detail a research initiative that is unique from the other Partnering Sites.
The Coordinating Center Applicant Organization will submit and be designated as the PI; the other partner(s) will be designated as the Co-PI(s).
