The Foreign Assistance Program is designed to support long term economic growth and the foreign policy objectives of the United States.

The program is provided through the Agency for International Development (US AID). US AID is an independent government agency providing humanitarian and economic assistance to more than one hundred countries.

There are a number of examples of projects that have funded through the Foreign Assistance to American Schools and Hospitals Abroad program.

  • The program allowed the African Medical & Research School in Kenya to procure commodities to upgrade its training facility.
  • The Mulanje Mission Hospital in Malawi was able to construct a private healthcare ward, procure furniture, medical and computer equipment
  • Wilberforce Institute in South Africa constructed, equipped and furnished a multi-purpose community development center
  • The Nancy Fulwood Hospital in Pakistan was able to procure medical diagnostic equipment, heart monitoring equipment and furniture
  • American Farm School in Greece renovated existing dormitories
  • The University of the Valley in Guatemala was able to construct telecommunications laboratory, renovate math and science laboratories, procure file servers, desktop computers and scanners

    In line with this mission, the NSF has constituted the Law & Social Sciences Program wherein it aims to solicit proposals that will address social scientific studies of law and law-like systems of rules.


    Alaska Native-Serving and Native Hawaiian-Seving Institutions Education Competitive Grants Program
    The National Institute of Food and Agriculture has recently constituted the Alaska Native-Serving and Native Hawaiian-Seving Institutions Education Competitive Grants Program wherein it intends to award funds in an attempt to support education, applied research, and several other related community development programs.


    National Leadership Grants
    The Institute of Museum and Library Services has been running the National Leadership Grants Program in an effort to address the issues and concerns that stand in the way of libraries, museums, and other archive centers or fields.


    Ethical Schools Project in Peru
    The Ethical Schools Project revolves around the notion of promoting a culture of ethical behavior and civic responsibility among members of the youth, as well as teachers and parents. The project also aims to explore ways that would contribute to a reduction in corruption and other forms of illicit activities such as cocoa cultivation and illegal environmental degradation, which are both common practices in Peru.


    Pilot Surveillance System for High Impact/Low Prevalence Congenital and Inherited Conditions Program
    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently established the Pilot Surveillance System for High Impact/Low Prevalence Congenital and Inherited Conditions Program wherein it seeks to create and evaluate a surveillance system for congenital and inherited disease conditions.
