Four Directions Development Corporation of Orono, ME is a certified community development financial institution (CDFI) established by the Penobscot Tribal Housing Authority with the assistance of Coastal Enterprises (also a certified CDFI) to serve the Penobscot Indian Nation through housing and business lending, homebuyer education, and technical assistance. Four Directions has expanded to serve the other three Tribes in Maine: the Passamaquoddy Tribe (representing two reservations), the Aroostook Band of Micmac Indians, and the Houlton Maliseet Band of Indians.

Four Directions Development Corporation (FDDC) is a certified Native CDFI established in 2001. FDDC provides home and business loans to Maine tribal members and through its development services, it offers financial literacy training, homebuyer education, budget and credit counseling and small business training. FDDC is requesting Financial Assistance to capitalize its housing loan capital and Technical Assistance to pay for staff salaries and benefits, provide training and outreach travel for staff, and to upgrade its website.



NA (2008) - $649,992

Four Directions Development Corporation is a certified Native CDFI established in 2001. The CDFI provides small business and home loans to tribal members and through its development services, if offers financial literacy training, homebuyer education and small business training. The organization will use the 2008 NACA FA award as lending capital and the TA grant to: 1) pay for staff salaries; 2) send employees to training, and 3) purchase computers and outreach materials. FDDC was awarded $649,992 ($500,000 Financial Assistance - $149,992 Technical Assistance).



NACA (2007) - $138,876

Four Directions Development Corporation is a Native CDFI focused on improving the social and economic conditions of the tribal members of the four Maine tribes by investing in affordable housing, tribal business ventures and small and medium size businesses. This 2007 TA grant with be used to hire and train new staff and purchase office equipment.



NACA (2005) - $525,000

Four Directions will use $425,000 of its $525,000 award under the 2005 Native American CDFI Assistance (NACA) Program for loan capital (FA award) and the remaining $100,000 is a technical assistance grant to support operations.



NACA (2004) - $855,000

Four Directions Development Corporation will use $720,000 of its $855,000 Native American CDFI Assistance award as loan loss reserves and for loan capital. The remaining $135,000 is a technical assistance grant will build the capacity of Four Directions to serve its market by supporting its operations as well as through consulting services to design marketing materials and update its website, new computer technology, and in-depth training for staff.
