Education Grants for Students Interested in Teaching Careers

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grants (TEACH Grants) assist those undergraduate and graduate postsecondary students that agree to teach specific and specific subjects that are in high need at schools that primarily serve disadvantaged populations.

These students receive grants up to $4,000 and are expected to teach for four years (as a full-time teacher), within eight years after they graduate from their program. Those students who fail to live up to the requirements set by accepting the TEACH Grants will see their grants converted into Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans with interest accrued from the date of award.

TEACH Grants are overseen by the Department of Education and fall under the Federal Student Aid Information Center. In order to be eligible for a TEACH Grant, students must be enrolled in eligible schools that may be public or private nonprofit institutions of higher education. These institutions must provide high-quality teacher preparation and professional development services, be financially sound, and assist the support and supervision services for teachers.   (continued...)
