Assistance to Small Shipyards Grant Program

Section 3506 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (Pub.L.109-163) and the Section entitled "Assistance to Small Shipyards" in the Consolidated Appropriation Act 2008, provides that the Maritime Administration shall establish an assistance program for small shipyards.

Under

this program,there is an aggregate of $10,00 0. 000 available for grants for capital improvements, and related infrastructure improvements at qualfied shipyards that will facilitate the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and quality of domestic ship construction for commercial and Federal Government use.

Such grants may not be used to construct buildings or other physical facilities or to acquire land unless such use is specifically approved by the Administrator as being consistent with and supplement to capital and related infrastructure improvements.

Shipyards or State or local governments on behalf of shipyards can apply.

The shipyard for which a grant is sought must be one in a single geographical location, located in or near a maritime community, that (1) is a small business concern (within the meaning of section 3 of the Small Business Act (15 U.S.C.632); and (2) does not have more than 600 production employees
