Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice (STEP) Activity

The purpose of Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice (STEP) Activity in Malawi is to improve the capacity of Teacher Training Colleges and the Ministry of Education to strengthen primary teacher preparation programs and operationalize a continuing professional development framework for both new

and continuing teachers for more effective management of human resources at the primary education level.

USAID/Malawi seeks a U. S. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), or a consortium of U. S. HEIs, with demonstrable technical expertise in (a) strengthening delivery systems for primary teacher education preparation (pre-service), (b) supporting systems to provide the development and operationalization of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for practicing educators (in-service), including developing course offerings and research agendas, (c) developing new teacher induction modalities, and (d) strengthening the ability to implement and monitor CPD frameworks.

The U. S. HEI (or consortium of HEIs) will work directly with the Government of Malawi’s Ministry of Education and its Directorate of Teacher Education Development, Malawi Institute for Education, and Malawian Teacher Training Colleges as well as other relevant departments (e.g., Directorate of Inspection and Advisory Services, Directorate of Education Planning, Directorate of Basic Education, and Department of Inclusive Education) to accomplish the results outlined for this activity as stated the Request for Application (RFA) document.
