The U. S. Embassy Monrovia Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U. S. Department of State announces an open competition for Liberia-based libraries and literacy-focused non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to submit proposals for literacy promotion programs.
The literacy promotion programs should
prioritize communicating the benefits of reading for pleasure, create opportunities for Liberian children and young adults to discover and explore reading materials, especially from but not exclusively American authors, and provide a space for consuming the materials without distraction.
Program Objectives A minimum of 500 Liberian children and young adults participate in reading clubs, author-led reading events, book discussion events, after school reading programs, or similar event/program A minimum of two events/programs are centered on an American author-written book A minimum of two events/programs are centered on graphic novels A minimum of 40% of books procured are written by American authors The theme of the proposal must relate to reading for pleasure Participants and Audiences A minimum of 500 Liberian children and young adults
