Project to Increase Compliance with Mexican Labor Law and International Labor Standards by the Tomato and Chile Pepper Sectors in Mexico

Subject to the availability of funds, USDOL’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) intends to award, through a competitive process, one

credit:


cooperative agreement to an organization to increase private sector stakeholders’ accountability to uphold core labor standards consistent with Mexican labor law and the USMCA Labor Chapter, specifically regarding child labor, forced labor, and acceptable conditions of work in the tomato and chile pepper supply chains in Mexico.

The project will increase compliance with labor laws related to child labor, forced labor, and acceptable conditions of work and it will increase application of effective and sustainable compliance and remediation systems in the tomato and chile pepper supply chains, including in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Chihuahua.The Employment and Training Administration (ETA)’s Office of Grants Management anticipates publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) around October 11, 2021, and intends to make awards around February 15, 2022 (these dates are subject to change).

Any commercial, educational, or U. S. or Non-U. S. non-profit organization(s), including any faith-based organizations, public international organizations or community-based organizations, capable of successfully addressing child labor, forced labor, and acceptable conditions of work in the tomato and chile pepper supply chains in Mexico is eligible to apply if and when a Funding Opportunity Announcement is published.

Lack of past experience with USDOL cooperative agreements, grants, or contracts does not bar eligibility.

All applicants for ILAB funding opportunities must have a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) prior to applying for funding.
